I don’t know about you, but I am always trying to find ways to help the environment. I try to make sure that everything that I do has as little negative impact on the environment as possible. Part of this is looking for new ways to get rid of my rubbish. It can be difficult to find cost effective and Eco friendly ways to clear the rubbish out so I have come up with a list of 5 strategies.
Number 5
Create a compost pile. A compost pile is an excellent multipurpose way of clearing out the rubbish. A large percentage of the food you place in your rubbish bin consists of the apple cores, egg shells, bread crusts, etc. that you don’t eat. Buy putting your food based rubbish in a compost pile you are throwing less in the landfills and making wonderful free “potting soil” for your gardens (food or flower).
Number 4
Recycling plastic, paper, and metal goods is another great eco-friendly way to clear out your rubbish. Recyclable goods make up a very large percentage of my rubbish. By placing all of my plastics, papers, and metals into the recycling bin rather than the trash can my rubbish bin is reduced to almost nothing. These items can now be reused and will stay out of the landfills.
Number 3
Reuse items whenever possible. When you are creative you can think of and/or find ways to use items that you otherwise would throw away. Simple ideas that fall into this category are reusing the plastic containers that you leftovers come in from a restraint and food comes in from the deli at the supermarket. Reusing boxes for storage or shipping purposes can also help to reduce your rubbish.
Number 2
Repurpose used items. There are many resources on the internet which present creative ideas for repurposing items that you might otherwise through away. An old crib can be modified to and used as a desk for your children get older. Old ceramic plates can be broken and used to make a mosaic table top. These are just some of the ways that you can repurpose items to reduce the rubbish you send out of your home.
