Overseas property lovers in search of a Caribbean dream home on Turks and Caicos need to get their skates on as the islands become more popular. The Caribbean destination is becoming a firm favourite with luxury overseas property buyers, particularly with the British. Property prices have been reasonable, however buyers are now finding that bargains are being snapped up and will soon be very hard to find. The most popular island on Turks and Caicos for tourists and foreign real estate investors is Providenciales, or Provo, as it is locally known.
Provo has the major international airport in the islands and is where most travelers start. It is located on the western end of the chain with 38 square miles of land. There are a number of major resorts on Provo, focused mostly on the northern and northeastern coasts where there are some beautiful white beaches. Grace Bay is the current center of tourism, with several large resorts and condominium towers for holiday travelers to take advantage of.
On the northeastern end of Provo is the new Leeward Resort and Marina. This is an international yacht destination that features a 130-slip, deep water eco-marina, a secluded white sandy beach, swimming pools & hydra-spas, fitness center, restaurants, retail shops & boutiques, outdoor café & bars and the private, penthouse-level Turks & Caicos Yacht Club. There are two types of properties that are under construction and available for interested buyers at this resort: the condominiums, with 2 and 3 bedroom units and the Leeward Isles home lots, for those who want to construct their own villa on the waterfront.
On the western side of the island is another resort development, the Amanyara Resort, a hidden gem. This is located next to Malcolm’s Beach, one of the prettiest and unspoiled beaches on the island. For those who want the sun and beaches without the larger resorts, the southern side of Provo offers some wonderful opportunities. Chalk Sound is a large lake with striking turquoise water and is part of a national park. Along the coast near Chalk Sound are several small villages, such as Sapodilla Bay, Copper Jack, Discovery Bay, Turtle Tail and Long Bay where there are many private villas available for rent and occasionally for sale. The island’s commercial port, South Dock, is found east of Sapodilla Bay and has the capability to deal with containerized goods.
Other islands in this small chain are also growing in popularity for tourists and investors, most notably South Caicos which is becoming a destination for boaters and those who love to fish. There are direct flights into Providenciales International Airport (PLS) from several US cities as well as London, so getting here is easy. Once you’ve arrived, it’s a great place to relax and enjoy the sun and sea.
