The Dominican Republican’s most popular and fastest growing tourist destination is Punta Cana, located on the easternmost part of the island. With an international airport that pulls in over 2 million passengers each year and beautiful white sands along the ocean, this destination has seen many new resort hotels and properties go up in recent years, with more in the works.
The beautiful white sands along the coast here stretch for nearly 50 km, and it is made up in large part of all-inclusive resorts that are popular with couples or families. While some resorts in the area cater to sports-minded people and others are couples only, most resorts focus on family entertainment. Indeed, this is the place where Bill and Hillary Clinton took their first post White House vacation in 2001.
Some of the popular resort destinations include the PuntaCana Resort and Golf Club and the White Sands Golf and Beach Resort. At White Sands there are a number of four and five star hotels surrounding the course as well as housing and property developments. Golf 1 – Playa Bavaro is a new apartment development under construction that is alongside the first hole of the Pepe Gancedo designed White Sands golf course. The temperature here is tropical year round, with averages in the high 20s and low 30s year round. April to November is the warmer season, but it is nice any time of the year.
