Herzog & de Meuron, the architects of Beijing’s Olympic Stadium, commonly called the Bird’s Nest, as well as Munich’s Allianz Arena, have designed a residential skyscraper in New York City called 56 Leonard Street. This is the Swiss firm’s first high rise property development and is a 57 floor condominium tower in the Tribeca area of Manhattan.

The new development will be as unique as the architects’ other works. It will havevwhat they call pixilated vertical layering of units and floors to maximize outdoor space. There will be 145 individual condominium units in the tower, from 2-4 bedrooms and penthouses. At the bottom of the building will be a stainless steel sculpture, created by London artist Anish Kapoor, which will appear to hold the building up.

Individual units in the complex will range from 133 square meters to 593 square meters and are priced from US $3.5 million to $33 million. Units will have fireplaces, soaring ceilings and wonderful views. There are ten penthouse suites with private elevators. These luxurious units will have 14 foot floor to ceiling windows as well as extra large terraces.

Additional amenities include a library, Tribeca tot room, and infinity edge swimming pool. The Tribeca area is located in lower Manhattan and is a thriving locale with galleries, restaurants, parks and markets. The building is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion in 2010.

Another first is a resort in Portugal that has employed numerous architects to create the first ever designer home resort constructed around a championship golf course. More here Bom Sucesso
