Air conditioners play an important role in our homes and a lot of people rely on their capability to balance or set the temperature towards their favor. While it is easy to turn on an air conditioner at the click of a button, diagnosing problems with it can prove to be quite challenging if you are unaware of the steps that you need to take. Here are 5 steps for troubleshooting your air conditioners problems.

Check the Thermostat

First things first, be sure to take a look at the thermostat. This can be checked on your air conditioner’s display or through a remote if it comes with one. You might have selected an option that changed the way that it functions, such as changing the mode, setting it to eco mode or simply lowering the temperature. If the thermostat is set to another mode, simply change it to one you would prefer.

Some air conditioners may reset back to a certain mode if you switch it off and turn it back on. If the thermostat does not appear but the air conditioner turns on, you may need to call a technician to fix the issue as this may require fixing the wiring to the thermostat.

Inspect the Air Filter

If your air conditioner is not performing well, and you have tried to adjust it by changing the thermostat, the problem may be from a different source. You will need to check the air filter as this may be the cause of the poor temperature control. The filter plays an important role when it comes to

According to the team at National Air Warehouse, “If your AC filter is clogged with dust, small particles or debris, it may also restrict the airflow inside the home. Overtime, this can build up and make it even worse. Filters have to be changed on a regular basis. Be sure to clean the air filter when necessary or replace it when it is beyond cleaning.”

Monitor Power

This may be one of the most basic steps but it is necessary as this can answer your question in mere seconds. If your AC is not getting power, this may be a sign to get it check or to inspect that it is plugged in properly,  Should the air conditioner fail to turn on, this may be time for you to check the circuit breaker to check if it went out recently and needs to be restarted.

Sometimes a bad outlet can prevent an air conditioner from properly functioning and may even cause problems later on which can deal a lot of damage to it. If you notice that the AC is functioning at a poor level, be sure to disconnect it from its power source and seek the help of a professional.

Check Your Circuit Breakers

Be sure to always check your circuit breakers as they may need to be reset at times if there is a surge in power or if a problem occurs. This may cause the outlet that you are trying to use to not supply power to the AC you are trying to lose. If you do not have experience handling circuit breakers, it’s best to leave it to someone who knows what to do.

Call A Professional

When these simple diagnostics fail, you will need to call it in as any attempts to manually fix the air conditioner may cause even more damage or problems when your air conditioner is running. A professional will be able to check your outlet for a poor source, your breakers to see if the right area has power and of course, check the air conditioner itself.

It’s nice to have a temperature-controlled room and comes very handy for those who are sensitive to temperature. The steps that have been listed down are the most common steps which can diagnose most of the problems that are based on improper handling or simply because a replacement is needed. Be sure to follow all of the steps before trying to move to the next ones and refrain from trying to open up the air conditioner on your own. Leave that to the technician as they will usually be well prepared.
