In its most recent survey, Forbes.com has Spain at the top of its list for second homes in Europe. The Costa del Sol on the southeast coast along the Mediterranean Sea, centered around Malaga, provides a bit of everything and is the number one choice for second home buyers, according to Forbes.

European holiday homes are an important investment and Spain continues to lead the way for many. With a month or more before the summer holidays, many residents of the UK and other European countries look for a destination that combines the best of everything. Spain’s costas offer relaxation on the beach, the best retailers, unparalleled nightlife and golfing galore.

One of the main draws of this part of the world is the golfing. There are over 60 golf courses and clubs in this region, with some of the best in the world located here. Marbella, located near the southern end of the Costa del Sol, is known specifically for its golf clubs, which include La Quinta Golf and Country Club, Marbella Club Golf Resort among others.

Costa del Sol realtor Kristina Szekely, quoted in Forbes.com, says that buyers also seek gated-community properties that are not only close to the beach, but also close to the village center.

People love southern Spain because we’ve got everything here,” says Szekely. “We’ve got all the big shops, fabulous weather and some of the world’s best golf courses.”

And don’t forget the nightlife. With some of the biggest and best resorts in the world, the Costa del Sol is famous for its all night partying. You can easily spend the night on the town, then spend the day on the beach and do it all over again without ever hitting the same spot – day or night – twice. With so much to do, it’s no wonder Spain leads the way for second homes in Europe.
