The Portuguese government is set to launch a new tourist promotion campaign worth a reported €7.5 million. State Secretary for Tourism Bernardo Trinidade recently confirmed the campaign, which will launch in several foreign countries to promote Portugal as a travel destination.
Portugal has sponsored tourist campaigns in a number of European countries in recent years, including Ireland, France, Holland, the UK and the Scandinavian countries. State Secretatary Trinidade notes that “Regarding the effort we made within these markets we have increased Portugal’s market quota in comparison to its competition.
Though the number of visitors to Portugal has been down so far this year, Trinidade indicated that efforts have already paid off in getting numbers back up, and predicts the travel market will make a substantial recovery this summer. With the UK pound down in relation to the euro, however, the British holiday market will be a tougher sell.
