The British Police authority The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACRO) Criminal Records Office exhibited at the overseas property show “A Place in The Sun Live”. The show which was attended by thousands of people considering buying a home overseas took place at Birmingham NEC from 2nd to 4th  October 09 . The unusual Police presence was aimed at providing essential information to people considering a move abroad concerning Police Certificates.

Police Certificates are required for entry into Canada, the USA New Zealand, Australia and South Africa to provide proof to overseas authorities that you either do or do not have a criminal history in the UK.

Each embassy or High Commission requires every applicant applying for an immigration visa to provide evidence of their good character or to disclose their previous criminal history within the United Kingdom. The certificates will show all convictions, warnings, reprimands and cautions that are recorded on the Police National Computer.

For those already living abroad applicants do not need to provide a UK address. You only need to provide proof of current address and inform the authority of your addresses in the UK over a 5 year period.

A Place In The Sun Live was a resounding sucess and a boost to the UK overseas property industry. The most popular stands were for properties in the US, Spain and Turkey, with exhibitor Homes of America having a queue form around their stand. “Clearly visitors are in the market for a deal, but there seems to be a growing awareness that prices won’t fall much more and now is a good time to buy,” said The Shows Managing Director Andy Bridge.
