The most expensive cities in Europe in which to rent an office in 2008 have been rated by the international firm NB Real Estate, and some changes to the rankings are evident. London’s West End is still the most expensive district of any in Europe, ending the year with an average rent of €961 per square meter. While that is still the highest in Europe, it is a considerable drop from the 2007 cost of €1,757 per square meter.

Following the West End is Moscow, which is in the same position it was at the end of 2007. Average rents in the Russian capital for 2008 were €873.3 per square meter, down from €1,025.9 in the previous year. Next is the Triangle d’Or in Paris, Geneva, Dublin and the City of London. The City of London fell from third to sixth, and Dublin dropped a spot from fourth to fifth.

The remaining cities and areas in the top ten most expensive offices are Zurich, the La Defense district of Paris, the Seine River Gauche district of Paris, and Kiev in the Ukraine. The report from NB Real Estate notes that although the Swiss economy is expected to contract this year, the country has performed better than other international financial centers such as London and New York.
