Angsana Resorts, part of Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts, is opening a new residential luxury resort on the Caribbean island nation of the Dominican Republic. The project confirms that the Dominican Republic is a luxury destination to buy Caribbean property. The first phase of this new development is scheduled to open to residents in 2010. The resort will have villas, town houses and condominium units as well as a marina, luxury hotel and casino, retail stores and more.
Angsana Samana Bay Resort is on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic on the Samana Peninsula near the town of Santa Barbara de Samana, the largest town in this area. The Samana Peninsula has become a popular place for international investors and property developers in recent years. It is also one of the favored tourist destinations on the island, with its whale-watching trips being a major draw. Every year from January through March, thousands of humpback whales migrate to this area to mate and nurse their young. There are plenty of opportunities to see the whales in the waters off the coast here.
There are planned some 470 apartments and condominiums with 31 private villas and town houses. The condos will be in low-rise buildings along the waterfront by the marina, as well as several taller buildings inland that will have views of the water. All condos will have their own terraces, some with private pools and whirlpools. Inland, the villas and town houses will be constructed at the highest point of the resort, providing for excellent views of the water and marina.
In addition to the homes, the resort will have a beach club and resort hotel, the Hotel Angsana Samana Bay. The hotel will have 250 suites and villas, plus a casino and spa for guests to take advantage of. The marina will have a small village with shops and restaurants, and offshore is a small island with its own spa and restaurant. A new airport has recently opened at the base of the peninsula, offering flights to and from Puerto Rico and connecting flights to most major US and Central American cities.
