The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has given the go-ahead for the new Tower Hamlets development on the site of St. Andrew’s Hospital in East London. The new property will be 27 stories tall and have 964 residential units as well as retail space and restaurants.
The new development is being undertaken by Barratt Homes in a joint venture with the London Development Agency. The property will have affordable housing plus plenty of public space with a park, gardens and several smaller parks. Some of the open spaces will have children’s play areas, sports facilities and public art.
The mayor noted that the application approval “underpins his commitment to do all he can to help London’s economy and Londoners in the current economic climate and through the challenges that lie ahead.”
He added: “This new development will bring with it jobs, affordable homes, healthcare and educations services to Tower Hamlets.”
