Rising prices could prove welcome for those selling a property

People considering selling a property could welcome news today that prices of houses in the UK are currently on the increase.

The latest government statistics show that UK house price inflation rose from 3.3 per cent in March 2006 to 5.1 per cent in April.

Between March and April, overall price levels rose by 0.9 per cent, compared to a 0.8 per cent fall that was measured in the same period of 2005.

According to the government, the rise in prices of UK properties can be attributed to rises in values of particular types of property, with terraced houses rising in value by two per cent and semi-detached homes increasing by 1.1 per cent.

Across the countries in the UK, the government noted that Scotland was the only area to see a fall in house price inflation in April, as the rate of price increase rose from 2.5 per cent in March in England to 4.7 per cent the next month.

In Wales the level of house price increase rose from 5.3 to 6.6 per cent, while in Northern Ireland a rise from 14.1 to 15.8 per cent was seen.
