If you haven’t made plans to visit Rio de Janiero for the 2009 Carnival, there’s still time. This year’s Carnival celebration begins on February 20th and ends on Fat Tuesday, February 24th. The party is a great time to have some fun in the sun, and also a good time to see what is so intriguing about Brazil. For those interested in international property, it’s an ideal time to combine business with pleasure and see the emerging Brazilian real estate market.

There is plenty to do, see and celebrate at this year’s festivities, but the highlight every year is the Rio Carnival Parade, or Samba Parade. The judges and spectators watch the parade in the Sambodromo, a specially built viewing area to see the 12 Rio Samba schools participate. The Sambadromo was designed by world famous Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer and comes to life every year during Carnival. The Parade takes place on Sunday and Monday, February 22-23, beginning at 9 PM or 21:00, and lasting until the wee hours of the morning. Tickets are required for this special area, so make sure to have some before you go.

In addition to the parades, there are parties and activities all over the city. There are Carnival balls, including one at the CopacabanaPalace and several at the Scala nightclub. There are street parties in all corners of the city, with a well known festival on

Cinelandia Square

every evening. Street Bands also play throughout town, and you can have fun wherever you go during Carnival.
