President George W. Bush and first lady Laura Bush have purchased a home in Dallas, Texas. The first couple will move out of their White House space when incoming President Barack Obama is inaugurated on January 20th, 2009, and will move to Dallas. Currently, the Bushes spend their time away from Washington at their ranch in Crawford, TX, which is south of Dallas. They plan to continue to visit the ranch, but reports indicate that they will make Dallas their primary residence.
The president’s new home is located in the prestigious Preston Hollow neighborhood of Dallas. This is north of downtown and has some of the most expensive homes in the city and state. It is also home to other notable residents, including Ross Perot Sr, Tom Hicks (currently the owner of the Dallas Stars and Texas Rangers professional clubs and co-owner of the Liverpool FC), and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
This neighborhood is noted by its large, mature trees, shady lanes and meandering creeks. It is near several major shopping malls, including North Park Center and Dallas Galleria, and has some of the most prestigious private schools in the state. At one time, much of the area was its own incorporated municipality, but it joined the city of Dallas in 1945.
