Overseas property investors considering Vietnam will be interested in knowing that Phu Quoc Island has been named by Vietnamese citizens as the top domestic travel destination in the country. The Best Brands of Vietnam 2008-2009 campaign was organized by the Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and surveyed readers of the paper and other residents throughout the city and country.

The 600 square kilometer island is the country’s largest and is located off the southwest coast in the Gulf of Thailand. It is populated by some 60,000 residents and has become a popular destination for visitors traveling on foot or by luxury yacht. The beaches are some of the finest anywhere in the world, and developers are starting to take notice.

Small bungalow resorts have sprouted on the island’s southwest coast, with larger and more luxurious ones coming. The Vietnamese government has targeted the island as a destination to be developed, and growth is on the way. While there is plenty of growth to come, it is still a great place to visit now, as the recent survey suggests.
