Construction recently began on a new oceanfront development on the southeastern side of Cat Island in the Bahamas for a new PGA Village and Beach Club. This will be the third village operated by the Professional Golfers Association, or PGA. The other two are in Port St. Lucie, Florida and Las Vegas.
This new PGA Beach Club will sit on 1,906 acres of land and have two 18-hole golf courses designed by Rees Jones. It will also have a clubhouse, PGA training center, hotel with spa and casino, shops and restaurants. There are individual home sites as well as several condominium buildings planned. Most of the individual homes will have more than an acre of land, allowing plenty of space. The plan is to sell them in fractional shares of 1/13th ownership, which will provide owners with four weeks of individual use every year.
Condo owners will be able to have their units in a management program that will offer a rental program when they don’t want to use the outstanding facilities at the new resort. Overall, there are plans for over 500 residences of both homes and condos. The new PGA Beach Club is just minutes away from New Bight Airport, which offers direct flights to the US and other islands in the Bahamas. Sales are expected to begin in the fall of 2010, with the first units coming on line in approximately two years.
