Plans for a new mixed-use development in the town of Newry in Northern Ireland have been submitted to the Northern Ireland Planning Service. The Hill Partnership owns a 32-acre site on Carnbane Way in Newry and is planning to construct homes, restaurants, offices and industrial units, retail shops and a park.

The project is estimated to create up to 500 new jobs in the construction phase and over 1,000 new jobs upon completion to run all the new businesses. Pending approvals, plans call for the development to be under way by the end of 2009.

Neil Armstrong, property manager at The Hill Partnership, said: “We believe that the site at Carnbane Way has significant potential for a number of mixed uses. These plans offer a very attractive economic and social proposition for the city of Newry and will make a substantial contribution to the local economy through the generation of jobs and the attraction of investment to the area.”
“The proposals will also help to secure Newry’s pre-eminent position as a hub for the Armagh and Banbridge area and will make the city even more attractive to visitors and shoppers.”
