The Taste of Playa, an international food festival, is coming to the popular Mexican resort destination of Playa del Carmen in September of 2009. Organizers just announced the festival as a way to showcase the unique food available at the resort and Riviera Maya. The event will promote the unique culinary perspectives of local chefs, highlight new event venues that will attract a variety of participants and coordinate the efforts of local businesses and municipal governments. Taste of Playa will show the spirit of multi-cultural cooperation that defines the modern Riviera Maya.
Municipal President, Roman Quian, said, “We are proud to celebrate the chefs that have chosen Playa del Carmen as their creative base. This international collection of chefs, flavors and culinary inspiration is what has made Playa Del Carmen one of the most popular destinations in the world.”
The event is scheduled for September 5, 2009 in the Parque Fundadores from 3 pm to 9 pm. A portion of the money raised from Taste of Playa will go to the Ak Lu’um International School in Playa del Carmen. Playa del Carmen is about 40 miles south of Cancun on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. It is located in what is known as the Mayan Riviera, which stretches for another 40 miles south to Tulum.
