The first five star hotel for Laos has opened in Savannakhet province in the southern part of the country. The Savan Vegas Hotel and Casino is located in Savannakhet town, which is becoming increasingly popular for travelers and tourists. It is at the intersection of the East-West economic corridor and is expected to make a significant contribution to the economy of the region.
The US$50 million project was begun in August, 2007. The town of Savannakhet in southern Laos runs alongside of the MekongRiver and is a popular destination for tourists and those who want to see the Ho Chi Minh Trail. It is also becoming an ecotourism destination with three national parks and large tracts of forests around it.
