Ski resorts in France are off to a good start for 2009, providing plenty of opportunities for rental property owners. With some of the biggest snow in December, the holiday season had lots of good skiing for people to enjoy. Additionally, the tough economic times mean that more local residents in France and the surrounding countries are staying closer to home.
Protourisme, a market analysis firm, reports that resorts in the Alps and Pyrenees have been 75 percent full so far, which is better than many expected. “There has been an excellent start to the season. Since the end of November, there has been a double-digit jump in the number of bookings,’ said Didier Arino, manager of Protourisme.
Many families from France have been snapping up great deals and visitors from nearby countries have been also coming in numbers. There have been fewer Americans, according to Protourisme, but bookings from residents of Belgium, Spain and the UK have been strong. With a good start, some believe it may be a better year for property buyers and sellers in France than originally expected.
