The Florida Association of Realtors announced a surprise rise in sales for the first quarter of 2009. The green shoots of a recovery could well be in place with FAR figures indicating a 25% rise in sales of existing single-family homes

A total of 31,412 existing homes sold state-wide in 1Q 2009; during the same period the year before, a total of 25,071 existing homes sold. It marks the ninth straight month that Florida has reported higher existing home sales; sales levels in the third and fourth quarters of 2008 were higher than the corresponding three-month period of the previous year, according to FAR.

Sales of existing condominiums in Florida in the first quarter rose 19 percent compared to the same time the previous year. This marks the second three-month period for increased state-wide sales in both the existing home and condo markets compared to year-ago levels.

Lee Weaver of The BRITISH HOMES GROUP Florida, a British staffed, Orlando based company aimed at assisting UK Florida home buyers, spoke to the International real estate website Homesgofast. “Demand for Florida property from the British market is at an all time high for our company. Since the beginning of 2009 we have received over 2000 enquiries for auction, distressed or foreclosed property as prices have tumbled and sellers and banks are motivated to move inventory.”
