The Walt Disney Company is currently in negotiations to build a new Disney theme park in Shanghai. The company and the municipal government of Shanghai are currently working out plans for such a park. The initial project ideas have been forwarded to the Chinese central government for approval.

The current plans have the new park located in Shanghai’s Huanglo district, which is near to the Pudong International Airport. The park will allow travelers who stop in Shanghai to enjoy the park for 48 hours without a visa.

When it opens, this will be the third Disney resort in Asia. The Tokyo Disney Resort opened in 1983 and Honk Kong Disneyland Resort opened in 2005. The Hong Kong resort is located in Penny’s Bay on Lantau Island and sits on 310 acres.
