Conference considers stance on South African property

The sale of South African land to foreigners will be among the key issues on the agenda at the country’s annual Top Property Conference.

The two-day event on June 7th and 8th in Johannesburg will attract leading executives and foreign property investors and will compare property to other investment vehicles in South Africa.

Other topics up for discussion include inner city rejuvenation and the global rise of the listed property fund, while another speaker will offer a guide on arranging a mixed-use property development.

However, the hot topic of the conference will be whether to introduce a moratorium on the sale of land to foreigners. Elna Moolman and Gina Schoeman of the Standard Bank will deliver a presentation drawing on research carried out in other international markets, including conclusions drawn about the motives behind setting up such restrictions.

Event manager Marjorie Salaam told Eprop it is “high time that South Africa’s favourite asset class gets an annual event of this stature…given the returns we have seen over the past few years.”
