Charlie Chaplin’s childhood home is now on the market for
£650,000.

The house, located in South-East London, was where the
legendary filmmaker lived in 1898, and offers an interesting investment
for cineastes after other recent celebrity houses for sale, including the apartment of actor Alec Baldwin.

The two-bedroom property in Kennington was only Chaplin’s
house for one year, but it is said to have inspired one of his most famous
films, The Kid. Chaplin lived there for
such a brief period because of his mother, who spent many years in the Cane
Hill Asylum, but was free in society long enough to acquire the home.

The Methley Street building used to be next door to a
slaughterhouse and pickle factory, reports About
Property
, although both have now been converted to city apartments. The
conversions are named City Lights Court, after the director’s 1939 film.

Chaplin’s home is a regular feature on the Charlie Chaplin
walking tour of London and boasts three floors, a double reception, dining room
and bespoke kitchen. A blue plaque on the front wall celebrates its former
owner.
