After three years in the
doldrums, property in Bulgaria is back in demand, according to a new
survey.  Research has found that
the buyers looking for property abroad have once again turned to Bulgaria,
helping the nation leap into the top ten most popular destinations with people
searching for overseas homes.

Rise in searched for property in Bulgaria

The figures from August’s Move
Channel ‘Top of the Props’ report show that 3.3 per cent of all enquiries in
July 2011 were for property in Bulgaria.
The country is back in the top ten most popular destinations for the
first time in three years as buyers were increasingly attracted by low prices
in the country.

Director Dan Johnson said:
“As the Euro debt crisis continues, people are looking for bargain
investments and holiday homes at low costs. Bulgaria’s real estate sales have
been improving all year, with buyers attracted by exceptionally low prices for
winter property, so it’s no surprise that interest has increased.”

Traditional overseas destinations top the list

Whilst Bulgaria may have returned
to the top ten for the first time since 2008, the traditional locations for
foreign homes dominated August’s report.
Spain was the most popular destination for the second consecutive month
while property in France, USA and Portugal was also popular.  Over a third of all property searches
from prospective overseas buyers were for these four destinations.

Quest Bulgaria reports that ‘Bulgaria’s boost may not rival the
traditional Western European destinations, but its growing popularity indicates
an interesting shift away from familiar markets as searches for property in
Greece and Thailand both declined.’

The report found that the
Caribbean was particularly popular in July 2011, with searches for property in
Barbados seeing the country enter the top ten whilst searches for property in
the Cayman Islands rose by 17 per cent.
