Brasilia-The
Government Bureau of Statistics (IBGE) today released unemployment figures for
September showing a rate of 6% in the 6 statistical áreas covered: Recife,
Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo e Porto Alegre.
While slightly less than 6.2% recorded in August it is
dead flat against 6% in September 2010. The number of persons unemployed,
estimated at 1.5 Million is also relatively unchanged since a year ago
September.
The implied stability is taken by most economists as a
good sign, though the average income for workers was down from August by 1.8%
and like the unemployment rate itself, exactly as year ago September. For the
year it looks like this:
