Bulgaria has become one of Europe’s top holiday and second home locations in recent years, and the latest sporting news should only increase interest in the Eastern European country. The Bulgarian ski resort of Bansko has recently been awarded two World Cup downhill ski races by the Federation Internationale de Ski (FIS) to take place in the upcoming season. Bansko is already the most popular ski area in Bulgaria and this will only increase interest in property and tourism for the area.
The Women’s Alpine FIS World Cup will visit the Bulgarian ski resort on the weekend of February 28 – March 1, 2009 for two races. The women’s downhill is scheduled for Saturday, February 28 with the Super-G taking place the next day. These two races will be part of the 36-race Women’s World Cup schedule that runs from October, 2008 through the end of March, 2009.
The town of Bansko is located 160 kilometers south of Sofia on the side of Mount Pirin. The ski slopes are located above the town and you can take a gondola right from town to the ski area. Over the past decade the town and ski area have developed into one of the premier ski destinations, and the awarding of the World Cup races is just the icing on the cake, so to speak.
Some 800,000 visitors come to Bansko each winter to enjoy the snow and resort town. Skiing generally runs from mid-December to early May, and the snow is some of the best in Europe. For those who are interested in this growing area, there are a wide range of options for property. The town has plenty of property that is developed and there are also several new off-plan properties in the works. There are also many things to do at the end of the day, with restaurants, bars and nightclubs in abundance. Now you can enjoy great skiing and world class racing at the same time in this Bulgarian resort.
