If you are planning to sell your property, be it at some point in the future or in the short term an incredibly effective way to improve the saleability of your property and make it more appealing to prospective buyers, is to go green and invest in upgrading parts of your home to be more eco-friendly.
With the ever-increasing costs of utilities – particularly your Gas and Electric bills – one thing people won’t want to do is buy a home that is going to cost them a lot of money to live in. So what ‘eco-upgrades’ so-to-speak, can you add to your home to make it more affordable to live in and ultimately more attractive to the buying markets?
Get Properly Insulated
During the colder months heating is a necessity in a household, but there are an unfortunate number of homes that either lack of have poor quality insulation. This means every time they turn on their heating they are essentially wasting hundreds of pounds as the warm air rises and escapes. You should invest in decent Insulation for the following (if applicable):
- Loft Space
- Internal Walls
- Cavity Walls
- External Walls
- Covering Hot Water Tanks
By doing so you massively cut down on heat loss as you make your home far easier to warm up and it will store heat much more effectively.
Install Solar Panels
Solar Panels are becoming more and more popular as property owners look to save money. They can be installed on your roof and be set up to convert the sun’s rays into energy as a renewable replacement for electricity or gas. Not only will this bring your consumption levels down significantly, it again will be a favourable asset to the buying markets.
Switching to LED Lights
More and more homes are switching to new LED lighting instead of the conventional bulbs we are used to seeing in our homes. It has been suggested that they are more efficient, don’t use as much energy and can last much longer; from a design perspective as well they can add an atmospheric edge and mood to a property thanks to the variety of colours they come in. So with this, while there is the money-saving appeal through these lights they could also be a good way to make your home more interesting and memorable to those viewing it.
These are just a few of the eco-friendly ways you can be improve the saleability of your property and while you may be thinking about the cost of such upgrades it’s important to remember the old adage: you need to spend money to make money. Treat the costs as an investment, as these methods could see you making more money back when you do eventually sell.
