Luxury hotel chain Mandarin Oriental Hotel has just announced plans for a new five-star, 250-room development in Moscow. The hotel is to be located in the heart of the city on Tverskaya Road and will use a historic, 19th century building as part of the property. It will retain two historic facades as well as several original rooms on the ground floor.

The new Moscow property will have a unique design where guests will check in at a sky lobby. There will be a nine-floor internal atrium that is to be modeled after the famed Faberge Egg. A restaurant is planned for the ninth level which will overlook Red Square.

In addition to the hotel rooms, the Mandarin will have 70,000 square feet of retail space that will be for luxury brands. Other amenities include underground parking, a health spa and wellness centre and indoor swimming pool. There will also be two ballrooms, several restaurants and bars for guests and visitors to enjoy.

Mandarin Oriental is planning to begin construction late in 2009 and have the property officially open in 2011.
