The Stars and Athletes head to Turks and Caicos

Some of the biggest stars in Hollywood head to The Turks and Caicos Islands when they want to escape to a tropical paradise. Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck were married here, while Bruce Willis, Oprah Winfrey and Keith Richards own property on the islands. Other visitors are said to include Justin Timberlake, Barbara Streisand, Julia Roberts and Paul McCartney.

One of the favorite spots on the islands for the rich and famous is Parrot Cay, a 1,000 acre private island located on the northern edge of the Caicos Islands. Forbes Traveler (www.forbestraveler.com) recently awarded Parrot Cay its Red Carpet award for the best Caribbean resorts. This is where Alias actress Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck were married, and many a star couple comes here to honeymoon in seclusion. The magnificent white beaches, spectacular coral reefs and the luxurious resort attract the stars and those who just want a bit of paradise, if only for a few days.

A writer at the New York Times (www.nytimes.com) noted that, on the boat ride leaving the island, Raquel Welch said she had never seen so many stars in one place! According to Ms. Welch, “They all come for the privacy, and the beaches.”

Another Turks and Caicos locale that was listed on Forbes’ best of Caribbean resorts is Grace Bay, on the island of Providenciales. Grace Bay is known for its blindingly white beaches and scuba diving.

Yet another private island, Dellis Cay, is scheduled to open a resort in 2009. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas are already rumored to have purchased a villa on this small island south of Parrot Cay. There will be a 22,000 square foot spa in addition to the luxury homes. Douglas, Zeta-Jones and their family just recently visited the islands on a family vacation.
