The Caribbean island of St. Lucia has become one of the hottest destinations in this part of the world, and with good reason. There are a number of new hotels and resorts on the island that offer a low-scale luxury that is very high on service. The island itself has plenty of amazing views and outdoor adventures, from the Piton mountains to the rain forest in the interior and the palm-fringed coves that are wonderful for sailing.
Over the past year or so, some 1,000 hotel rooms have been added to St. Lucia, most of which are on the high end. In the next year, another 1,000 are expected to open as well. Cap Maison is a boutique hotel in the north with 50 rooms that sits on Cap Estate. It welcomes guests with a massage in its spa and the hotel feels like a private home or estate.
The Landings is a Rock Resort that has a marina as its centerpiece. The island has long been a favorite for sailors with deep water coves and bays, and the new resort hopes to take advantage of that. Another new resort is the Jade Mountain, which overlooks the Pitons. Guests all have their own private concierge to take care of all their needs during the visit and Jade Mountain is at the very high end of the scale. Down the hills is The Tides Sugar Beach, which is under construction and expected to be completed next year.
Flights to Saint Lucia come in to Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) near Vieux Fort. Most international direct flights come into Hewanorra, including flights from Canada, the UK and the US.
