Italy continues to be one of the
most popular overseas locations for online property searches with the southern
European country maintaining its place in the top five overseas locations for
property searches.

The latest Rightmove Overseas
Search report found that Italy was the fifth most popular country in May for
the second month running, having climbed from 6th place back in
March.

Property in Italy the third fastest growing search in May 2011

The report found that Italy was
the third fastest growing country for property searches in May.  Searches for property in Italy rose by
23 per cent, only beaten by searches for property in Thailand (up 24 per cent)
and Poland (up 248 per cent).  This
follows an encouraging rise in the number of Italian property searches in both
March and April.

The fastest growing Italian
region was Abruzzo with searches up almost half (48 per cent) on April’s
figures.  Abruzzo was 102nd
in the overall chart, making it the fifth most popular Italian region for
property searches.

Tuscany is the most popular
region at 47th in the chart, followed by Lombardy and Campania, a
region which saw searches up 46 per cent in May.

There were also an increased
number of searches for property in Calabria – up 25 per cent on April’s
figures.

Increasing number of property searches on mobile devices

Recent figures have also shown
that more and more people are searching for property in Italy, the UK and in
other countries on mobile devices.
On one particular day in June 2011, Rightmove recorded that over one in five
property searches were performed on mobile devices.

For only the second day on
record, over 20 per cent of all searches for property were conducted on either
a smart phone, iPhone or via an iPad.
