The Pathum Wan, or Pathumwan, district of Bangkok has the highest land prices in Thailand, according to a recent survey from the Agency for Real Estate Affairs (AREA). The price for one wah, or four square meters of land, near the Siam Paragon shopping mall in Pathum Wan is approximately Bt800,000. Silom, the second most expensive part of the city had an average price of Bt700,000 per wah, according to the report.

The Pathum Wan district is one of 50 in the city of Bangkok and was established in 1914. It is named after a Buddist Temple, Wat Pathum Wanaram and the Sa Pathum Palace. Today the district is known for its shopping centers, including the modern Siam Paragon which opened at the end of 2005. Other popular shopping centers are the Siam Center, the Siam Discovery Center, and the MBK Center, which is one of the most popular destinations in the city for both residents and tourists.

In addition to the many shopping opportunities in Pathum Wan, there are several other interesting things to see and do. Chulalongkorn University is located here and is the oldest university in Thailand. Within the Faculty of Science is the museum of Imaging Technology, a fascinating home to cameras old and new. The former home of James H.W. Thompson, an American who helped to develop the Thai silk industry, is a favorite tourist attraction.

Finally, the Royal Bangkok Sports Club is located here. This has a horse racing track, the National Stadium and Lumphini Boxing Stadium and Lumphini Park. All of these attractions make Pathun Wan an ideal place for Thai property investors
