A new, luxury Manhattan penthouse has recently hit the
market. The stunning penthouse in
the Midtown tower Place 57 is for sale at a cool $7.9 million.
In 2008, it was reported that the property was purchased by
former news anchor Gayle King ââ¬â coincidentally the best friend of talk-show
legend Oprah Winfrey. So, has the
property been Oprahââ¬â¢s all along?
We find out.
Luxury penthouse up
for sale for $7.9 million
The Salem News
reports that ââ¬Ëin the world of celebrity real estate, stars buy homes through
trusts in LLCs [Limited Liability Companies] in an effort to cut the paper
trail leading to their name.ââ¬â¢
However, it is possible to do some digging and find out who
the ââ¬Ëtrueââ¬â¢ owner is.
Four years ago it was reported that Gayle King bought the 3
bedroom, 3 ý bathroom apartment in New Yorkââ¬â¢s Place 57 tower for a cool $7.1
million. However, it subsequently appeared
that the home was not purchased by King, but by Winfrey herself.
The penthouse is now up for sale for $7.9 million through
Mark Schoenfield of the Corcoran Group and appears to be vacant.
Talk show queen owns
several homes
The Place 57 Midtown tower was completed in 2006 and condos
in the building originally sold for between $1.47 million and over $7
million. Oprahââ¬â¢s penthouse is on
the 36th floor and features 2,530 square feet of accommodation plus
a 768 square foot terrace.
The apartment features a triangle-shaped living room, a
luxury kitchen and a dining area. The
master suite has three walk-in closets and a jetted tub.
If the property is owned by the talk-show queen, it is only
one of several luxury homes that Winfrey owns. She also owns a plantation in Hawaii, a duplex in downtown
Chicago and a large property in Montecito. In addition, the 58 year old also owns smaller homes and
condos in Douglasville, GA, Franklin, TN and Elmwood Park, Il.
