The coastal city of Macae, about three hours north of Rio de Janeiro, has just had a new shopping center open. The Plaza Macae will serve this city of some 160,000 residents with new stores, a movie theatre and restaurants. The center has 243,000 square feet and is anchored by Lojas Americanas, C&A Marisa, and a five screen movie theatre. A second phase of the shopping center is set to open in December.
Macae is in the state of Rio de Janeiro and is up the coast from the popular resort towns of Buzios and Cabo Frio. The town has grown substantially over the past several decades and is expected to continue to do so in the coming years, so real estate is a good bet here. Additionally, a university is now under construction and will be located across the street from the Plaza Macae. With more people and jobs, there will be continued demand for high quality property and investors are taking note.
Macae is an important port for this stretch of Brazilian coast as it is near to the country’s Campos oil fields. Petrobras, the national oil company, has a number of offices and facilities in the city. It is also home to a growing expatriate community of those who work with the oil industry and associated businesses. Nearby, though, there are many beautiful beaches, the most well known of which are Cavaleiros and Pecado, and quiet lagoons, so it is easy to escape from the city and enjoy the wonderful Brazilian coast.
Macae has a municipal airport (MEA) with connecting flights to other major Brazilian cities.
