A new race track is being constructed on Yas Island and will host the 2009 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. This race will be the final one for the 2009 Formula One season and is scheduled to take place in November, 2009. This will be the second Grand Prix in the Middle East, following one in Bahrain.

Yas Island is a major new development off the coast of Abu Dhabi that is being overseen by Aldar Properties. When completed, it will have a retail center, marina, hotels and even a Ferrari theme park in addition to the F1 race track. The 5.6 kilometer race course is being designed by Herman Tilke and will offer a spectacular setting for the race.

The retail area will encompass 300,000 square feet of shops on three levels with something for everyone. The Ferrari theme park will have 24 different rides and attractions for the whole family, and a new water park will also allow visitors and residents to enjoy some fun in the sun and stay cool at the same time.

Yas Island will offer a variety of modern low-rise, mixed-use residential apartments and villas available to lease or own. The architecture will be a blend of the traditional and modern styles, and guests will be able to choose from a range of waterfront apartments or terraced stand-alone units with panoramic views of the golf course. There are also two-tiered exclusive waterfront apartments by the lagoons.
