The Dubai based Jumeirah Group has just announced it is opening a new luxury hotel in Glasgow. The £125 million property will open at the corner of Argyle Street and Robertson Street in the heart of the financial district in 2011. The Jumeirah Glasgow Hotel is the group’s fifth hotel planned for Europe.
The Jumeirah Group is a luxury hotel operator and currently runs what is one of the world’s most luxurious hotels in Dubai, the Burj Al Arab. The group also owns the luxurious Jumeirah Carlton Tower and the Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel, both in the Knightsbridge section of London, and the Jumeirah Essex House in Manhattan, which was voted North America’s Leading Hotel at the World Travel Awards 2007.
On the announcement of the new hotel, Councilor Steven Purcell, Leader of Glasgow City Council and Chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: “Today’s announcement is a resounding vote of confidence in Glasgow and its future ambitions, made all the sweeter by the fact that Jumeirah does not operate anywhere else in the United Kingdom outside London.
Guy Crawford, Chief Executive Officer of Jumeirah Group reinforced the sentiment: “We are delighted to announce this exciting development for Jumeirah in the city of Glasgow. Located in the heart of such a dynamic city, Jumeirah Glasgow Hotel will be the perfect addition to our portfolio, in line with Jumeirah’s promise to STAY DIFFERENT™.”
