Houses for sale in Barbados have benefited from a tourism boost, as the island announced success in a competitive market.

Barbados welcomes more visitors

From January to May this year, Barbados has housed 250,385 stay-over visitors, an increase of 13,724 from 2010. The number of passengers arriving from cruise ships has also increased by 3.4% in the same period.

Speaking to The Barbados Advocate, the Ministry of Tourism congratulated the Barbados tourism board for their work: “I am happy to report that even in the face of the economic crisis impacting countries across the globe, Barbados has been able to create innovative ways to retain its niche in existing tourist source markets, and also expand into new markets.”

The strong tourism industry is vital in keeping the island’s economy growing, creating new jobs for property owners on the island. The Ministry celebrated the fact that “over 12,000 people were employed” in the accommodation and food sectors last year, praising workers for ensuring a high quality of life for visitors to the country.

Rihanna is island’s star attraction

The island’s popularity has been helped this week with the visit of pop star Rihanna, who is currently there on the Caribbean leg of her Loud tour. In between gigs, the native singer was spotted by reporters relaxing at the Barbados Kadooment Day parade.

With its confident economy and strong tourist interest in Barbados, homes for sale on the island will continue to be popular with overseas buyers.
