HAMBURG, Germany, March 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ —

The winning properties are located in Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Norway and the Allgäu region of Southern Germany

HÄUSER, the high-class magazine for international architecture, design and sophisticated living, will be presenting the winners of this year’s HÄUSER AWARD in its current 2/17 issue (on sale from 6th March). With the competition motto of “Spectacular Houses,” the magazine awarded prizes this year to the most sensational family homes in Europe, which were considered truly impressive due to their extraordinary technical and artistic features, unconventional appearance, magnificent interior spaces or awe-inspiring location. Others, in contrast, captivated the jury because of their understated sophistication, technical finesse, or use of unusual materials.

This year, HÄUSER is awarding the renowned architectural prize in cooperation with the Association of German Architects (Bund Deutscher ArchitektenBDA), the Association of Private Developers (Verbund Privater Bauherren e.V. VPB) and Jung to the following properties:

The jury has awarded prize money amounting to €15,000. A further €1,000 have been awarded by the VPB to the developers of each of the winning properties.

This year once again, an interior design project has also received an award for excellence from HÄUSER. In cooperation with Parkett Dietrich, HÄUSER is awarding the Interior Design Prize worth €2,000 to LP Architektur for Haus Kranawendter in Leogang, Austria. Wood and natural stone dominate this family house from both the inside and the outside. While it may seem traditional and rustic from the exterior, this theme becomes ornate and sophisticated within the house. The contrasts resulting from the interplay between different materials such as freshly-sawn wood and smooth screed floors, untreated natural stone and fine plaster, make the house both an aesthetic and haptic experience.

Furthermore, a special prize worth €2,000 was awarded together with Metten Stein+Design for the first time for a particularly successful outdoor area design: The Special Prize for Exterior Design went to Lund Hagem Architects for Haus Knapphullet, a spectacular summerhouse with a “floating” concrete roof in Sandefjord on the south coast of Norway. The architects constructed a roof made from concrete between the cliff and the ground, which shelters the glass summerhouse and acts as a lateral staircase to the roof. This exceptional building does not just highlight the beauty of the landscape, but incorporates it naturally as an architectural starting point.

All winners of the HÄUSER AWARD 2017 will be honoured at the award ceremony tonight at the Chamäleon Theater in Berlin which will take place as part of the architecture conference “Jung Architekturgespräche”. The award winners will present their superb homes at the event.
