One of the main elements that overseas property investors look for in an emerging real estate market is accessibility. The recent news that Cape Verde is now even easier to get to is set to have a positive effect on the housing market on the islands. TACV, the national flag carrier of the Cape Verde Republic recently announced that they will be flying direct flights from London Stansted to Cape Verde from October 29th 2007.
The new service will operate twice weekly, flying from London Stansted to Praia on the island of Santiago every Monday and to the primary international airport on Sal Island every Thursday.
Cape Verde shot to fame when the BBC Holiday programme, in November 2005, identified Cape Verde as “the next potential holiday hotspot” and industry insiders have been quick to agree. A that time Amanda Lamb presenter of one of the UK’s most popular overseas property television shows, A Place in the Sun, named Cape Verde as her number one destination for the overseas buyer. Investors who got in early are holding on tightly to what they have got whilst keen eyed overseas property investors are looking for a foot hold on the Cape Verde housing market.
Cape Verde offers land for sale from around £50,000 and apartments from about £60,000.
Cape Verde is situated in the Atlantic Ocean, 600km (450 miles) west-northwest of Senegal and comprises 10 volcanic islands and five islets in two groups: Balavento (Windwards) and Sotavento (Leewards). In the former group are the islands of São Vicente, Santo Antão, São Nicolau, Santa Luzia, Sal and Boa Vista, along with the smaller islands of Branco and Raso; the Sotavento group comprises the islands of Santiago, Maio, Fogo and Brava, along with the smaller islands of Rei and Rombo.
