Despite property buyers looking further afield and in more
unexpected overseas locations than before, the old favourites remain top of the
list for Brits looking for a holiday home.  That’s the result of a recent article in the Independent on Sunday on holiday home
ownership.

Countries outside the Eurozone problems such as Turkey and
Switzerland remain popular, but keep reading to find out the top three chosen
destinations for British buyers according to the newspaper.

Perennial favourites
remain popular with overseas property buyers

France remains the most popular choice with British buyers
according to the report carried out by foreign exchange experts Caxton FX.  The proximity to the UK remains a big
draw and property prices in the country haven’t seen large falls such as in
neighbouring Spain.

French property specialist Nicholas Leach said: “France is
still the most visited country in the world, and is unlikely to stop attracting
international tourists, whether they are coming for the French Riviera, skiing
in the Alps, for the scenery or for the culture and food.”

The second most popular location on the list was Spain – a
perennial favourite with British buyers.

Marc Pritchard from housebuilder Taylor Wimpey España told
the Independent on Sunday: “A
home from home for many, Spain’s climate, infrastructure, ease of access from
the UK, combined with good hospitals and healthcare system, political
stability, timeless tourism appeal and affordable housing market draws buyers
in their droves.”

However, it’s never been more important that you carefully
research your property before you buy in Spain.  Hundreds of horror stories have been reported in the press
over recent years and while there are some great property bargains to be had,
make sure you get proper advice before you buy.

The third most popular place to buy a holiday home according
to the Caxton FX report is the USA.
Mortgage finance can be an issue if you’re looking to snap up a Florida
villa, but experts believe that prices have bottomed out and that now is a
great time to buy.
