Over the past few decades the Emirate of Dubai has undergone a stunning and improbable change. From a small, oil-dependent part of the UAE, Dubai has become a world-class city and tourist destination with some of the most ambitious and impressive buildings and construction projects in the world. This transformation can be seen in a unique set of images that Nakheel, one Dubai’s largest real estate developers, has released on its corporate website here.

A series of satellite images show what Dubai looked like in 1973, 1990, 2007 and at present. There is also an image that shows what Dubai will look like when most of the planned construction and development projects are complete. The transformation is amazing to see, even from these far-away satellite images. The new islands taking shape along the coast – The Palm Trilogy and The World – are transforming the coast and adding as much as 1,000 km of coastline.

Nakheel is developing these man-made islands as some of the most unique real estate projects anywhere, ever. The first of the islands, the Palm Jumeirah, has already seen the first handover of homes to the new residents. Over the next few years, this island will become one of the premier resort destinations in the world. The Marina Residences are destined to be a premier living destination at the tip of the trunk of this island.

The Palm Jebel Ali and the Palm Deira are proceeding on schedule, with primary land reclamation finished for the Palm Jebel Ali. The World is also taking shape in the form of 300 man made islands that form an image of the world. In addition to these unique developments, Nakheel has more than 250 hotels and countless other buildings planned or under construction.

These new images will show exactly how Dubai is transforming itself before you very eyes.
