The government of Cyprus recently gave permission for the building of as many as 14 new golf courses on the island. The move is seen as a boost to the tourism and construction industries, which are suffering in the current economic climate. It will also help to boost sagging property prices in Cyprus and will boost investment from abroad.

“The decision was taken for the purpose of strengthening tourism in Cyprus and boosting economic activity,” said Government Spokesman Stefanos Stefanou.

There are currently just three golf courses on the island, so the decision to allow 14 more will substantially boost the number of courses. The new courses will also help to make Cyprus a popular destination for holiday travelers and second home buyers who want to be near top-notch golf courses.

The new courses are expected to be constructed at Ayios Ambrosis near Limassol, Paramali, Fassouri, Polis Chrysochous, Paphos and Ammochostos-Larnaca.
