The opening of the Burj Dubai tower in Dubai, the world’s tallest building, has been delayed by three months until December, 2009. The National newspaper in the United Arab Emirates reports that two contractors involved in the project said work still needed to be completed both inside and outside the building before it will be ready for opening and the new deadline is December.
Originally, speculation was that the building would be opened in September to coincide with the launching of the first phase of the Dubai Metro. It was assumed that the entire building would still need some work, but that much of it would be able to be occupied by then. That, however, will not be case now.
Emaar Properties, the developer of the Burj Dubai, would not confirm the exact opening date, but said the building was scheduled to open this year. The company released a statement saying that “More details on the official launch will be provided in due course.”
The final height of the Burj Dubai has not been released yet, but it is thought to have topped out earlier this year at 818 meters. The tower is part of the Downtown Burj Dubai development, near the heart of Dubai city.
