Bansko, Bulgaria Launches Summer Season

The Bulgarian mountain resort town of Bansko launched its summer season recently with a concert and festival at the town’s Pirin Hotel. The mayor of Bansko, Alexander Kravarov, held a press conference at the hotel touting a succesful winter holiday season and looking forward to the continued expansion of the resort as a year-round holiday destination.
 
The town has plans to expand the area’s sporting facilities to include tennis courts and football grounds so that more travelers will visit year round. The town also has other attractions, including the Nikola Vaptsarov Museum, the Neofit Rilksa house and the Sveta Troitsa church. The old town is full of charm and has buildings that date from as far back as the 10th century, making it a nice place to visit any time of the year.
 
While Bansko has been known to holiday travelers primarily as a ski resort, it is also a very popular summer destination. The beautiful Pirin Mountains surround the town and offer outdoor lovers a wealth of opportunities for trekking and enjoying the spectacular scenery. Pirin National Park is not far and is listed as a UNESCO World Cultural and National Heritage site, with beautiful plants and flowers, more than a hundred glacial lakes, forests, waterfalls and caves to explore.
