Bali Airport to Get Upgrade

Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport Indonesia will soon undergo a major expansion and renovation, according to an announcement from Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla. The project will begin in the Spring of 2009 and is scheduled to take approximately two years to complete.
 
Kalla was in Bali recently and took part in a meeting at the airport to plan the expansion. Afterwards, he said that “The expansion project will have to be started not later than April 2009 and the next three months should be used to prepare the tender. The project should be completed within two years.”
 
The project calls for an expansion of the current runway to accommodate larger planes as well as the addition of a new runway. Additionally, a new domestic terminal is planned and the current international terminal will be expanded. The cost of the planned work is said to be Rp. 1.2 trillion, or about US $111.6 million.
