Where in the world to rent a holiday home
As the days dim and the end of the year holidays appear on the horizon, many turn their thoughts to trips abroad. Warmer climates, sunnier days and fresh snow are just a few of the attractions that draw UK residents to other locations for their holidays. There are plenty of holiday travel guides for those who want to get away – too many, if you aren’t sure where to go. The Times recently listed its top ten places to visit, and here are few of their choices along with some other, more traditional places.
For skiers, the ultimate is a traditional resort in the French Alps. La Clusaz has great skiing and great feasts for Christmas. There is plenty going on at this time of year in this resort in the Haute Savoie, and plenty of places to stay. For those who aren’t into skiing, but don’t mind the cold, St. Petersburg has lots to offer. As the cultural capital of Russia, this city of islands and canals is one of the world’s most romantic. Visitors can see the many museums, including the famous Hermitage, go ice-skating in the park or see a ballet at the Mariinsky Theater.
For those who are looking to escape to warmer climates for the holidays, the Indian state of Goa is a very nice place to relax in. The weather at this time of year is nearly perfect and the coastline along the Indian Ocean offers spectacular beaches. There are nonstop flights from London to Goa, so it isn’t hard to get here. With a little longer flight, the beaches of Australia beckon. Bondi Beach in Sydney is one of the most well known, and those who can get up to there should see the Great Barrier Reef. The colors and sea life will leave most people speechless.
If it’s warm weather, beaches and parties you crave, then Brazil is the place to go. Rio’s Copacabana beach is the place to see the New Year in, and some 2 million people manage it each year. A more relaxing Brazil can be experienced along the northeast coastline in cities like Fortaleza and Natal.
At last, the largest fireworks display in the world takes place on the Madeira Islands of Portugal as they welcome the New Year. The capital city of Funchal promises to have a big celebration again this year. Some 250,000 lights decorate the seafront and the city is shaped around the bay of Funchal so everyone gets a good view of the lights and fireworks.
These are just a few of the places that holiday travelers can escape to. Sun or snow, there are plenty of things to do.
