Colorado Wine Country

As the cool autumn temperatures roll across the country, wine presses are in full gear everywhere. With the grape harvest comes the crush, and it’s a great time to see the wine making in full gear and enjoy the wonderful days and nights. Just like in many other places, now is a great time to visit the wineries across Colorado and see what the state has to offer.

The heart of Colorado’s wine country is on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains called the Palisade Region. There is a wine trail for visitors to see the regional offerings, many of which have won awards and prizes in recent years in wine competitions around the country.

While it the region is unique because of its high altitude, the weather in this part of the state is excellent for growing grapes that produce very good wines. Long, hot days in the Colorado sun makes for ideal conditions, and one winery that has won a number of awards is Plum Creek Winery. While Plum Creek is one of the most well known, there are a total of 72 wineries in the state. In the Palisade Region there are 21 wineries, and 19 of them have tasting rooms.

The Palisade Region of Colorado is on the western edge of the state, not far from Grand Junction. It takes its name from the town of Palisade, which is along the Colorado River. You can fly into Grand Junction, or drive over from Aspen, Vail or even Denver, and then enjoy the sights and tastes of Colorado.
