Selling a Celebrity’s Former Property

While celebrities who try to sell their current properties might not always want to be in the public spotlight, that’s not the case for those who are selling the former homes of celebs and stars. One of the hottest property markets is also one of the best for marketing properties by associating them with their former owners. New York City has more than its share of people who are known around the world, and so is a good place to see this trend in action.

One listing in New York is for Frank Sinatra’s penthouse apartment at 530 E. 72nd Street, where Old Blue Eyes lived from 1962 to 1972. This 3,000 square foot unit is listed for $5.295 million. On Central Park South at the famous Essex House, a former residence of David Bowie is up for sale. This one is going for $5.485 million. While the listing doesn’t specifically refer to the rock star, interested buyers are usually well informed as to the old owner and the custom renovations he and his wife undertook with the apartment.

Another creatively listed apartment is at 102 Bedford Street. The town house, which was converted to apartments in 1926, once housed Walt Disney and Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., though neither of them actually lived in the unit that is up for sale. With many more well known residents of New York, more and more properties are sure to be listed as their former residences when they come up for sale or lease.
