Retiring abroad-Taking your pets from the UK

Traveling with pets abroad
If you are going abroad and wish to take your pet cat or dog with you, the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) could allow you to avoid long quarantine periods.
Working guide and hearing dogs may also travel on the scheme. Countries participating in PETS include parts of Europe, Bahrain, the USA, Canada and certain other long haul destinations. As more countries join the scheme, check the current position with the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
To be eligible, your cat or dog must:
- meet the requirements of the scheme
- travel via certain designated sea, air and rail routes
